For me, the only must-see yesterday was the inside of my synagogue. But despite the late start, there are still plenty of literary happenings this week:
Tonight's featured must-see is James Ellroy who will speak at the Harold Washington Library (400 S. State) at 6pm. Don't miss the "Demon Dog of American Crime Fiction".
Also tomorrow at 6pm, Audrey Niffenger will be signing copies of her long awaited second novel, HER FEARFUL SYMMETRY, at the Newberry Library (60 W. Walton). Don't want to miss Ellroy? Niffenger is also signing tomorrow at 7:30pm at the Swedish American Museum (5211 N. Clark).
The Chicago literary magazine, MAKE, is having their release party on Thursday, October 1st. Stop by the Roots and Culture Contemporary Art Center (1034 N. Milwaukee) at 7pm for readings by Rob Schlegel, Rob Duffer, Brian Anderson and Emily Ferris.
On Friday, October 2nd, head up to the Book Stall in Winnetka (811 Elm) for the Ragdale Foundation opening cocktail reception and supper at 6pm. Ragdale is a wonderful organization and reservations are required, so visit the website for more information.

Must-See Monday
The Book Cellar (4736 N. Lincoln) hosts "The Brother's Delacorte" on Wednesday, August 26th at 7:00pm. This is group of YA authors - Daniel Kraus, James Kennedy, and Adam Selzer - are all published under the Delecorte imprint. Stick around until 8pm for Never Too Old, the YA book group for adults.
If you prefer a reading that's 21+, head over to Red Kiva for 2ND STORY, also on Wednesday at 7:00pm. A combination of storytelling, music, and wine; what better way to spend you evening?
Head over to Bloomingdale's (900 N. Michigan) on Thursday, August 27 5-7pm to meet Laura Caldwell, author of the Izzy McNeil Trilogy. Receive a free book with any Bloomingdale's purchase and Laura will be happy to sign your copy.

Paulina) hosts the William Burroughs 50th Anniversary Celebration. $60 in advance and $75 at the door earns you food and open bar and the proceeds will fund a documentary film on the famous author. Music by Maya Jenson, food by David Leigh and readings by Anne Waldman, Kurt Henner, and Davis Schneiderman.

Must-See Monday
Get over the beer and BBQ hangover with a little dose of literary:
Jane Hamilton and Elizabeth Berg read from their latest novels at Women and Children First (5233 N. Clark) Wednesday, May 27th at 7pm. This is one of my favorite bookstores and they always put on a good show.
Michael Connelly and George Pelecanos team up to sign copies of their latest books Wednesday, May 27th. Catch them on your lunch hour at Borders downtown (150 N. State) at 12:30pm or after work at Barnes and Noble Skokie (55 Old Orchard Center) at 7:30pm.
The poetry press, Switchback Books, is hosting a fundraiser at Irish Eyes (2519 N. Lincoln) on Thursday, May 28th at 7pm. No readings scheduled, but come out and support this small press. Switchback staff will be bartending.
In the mood for something racier? Check out The Sunday Night Sex Show at The Burlington (3425 W. Fullerton) Sunday, May 31 at 7:30pm. This lively reading series is a Metromix pick, includes prizes and trivia games, and is held the last Sunday of every month.
